I have loved taking pictures since I was a teenager growing up in China 50+ years ago. The first camera I owned was a Kiev made in Russia (or, the Soviet Union at that time), which my father gave me the 400-or-so RMB to buy. Together with my then boyfriend we took photos, developed the film and printed the photos all on our own. My attempt in real photography started in 2010, when my husband and I took our first safari in Africa (Botswana, Zambia, South Africa). At that time I had a decent Canon SLR camera and bought the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L lens. My photographer friend gave me a crash course before the trip. I tried taking more serious pictures for the first time. The results, when I looked at the pictures taken on that trip, are less than satisfactory - many were not sharp and I wasted a lot of opportunities due to lack of skills and knowledge.
Over the last 10 years we have participated in quite a few photography expeditions (thanks to my husband's willingness to go with me and be my sherpa!) and I have learned more about photography. What I like most is shooting wild life, specifically the animals I really love, such as snowy owls, penguins, big cats like lions, tigers, polar bears, etc. I also got to know some really good wild life photographers. I admire them and their work, at the same time I realized I could never be like one of them, because I simply do not have the will power, endurance, physical stamina and everything else it takes! I can stand far away respecting, admiring them and their work, and wishing that in my next life, I will try to become one of them!
However, family and friends often ask me, what do you do with all the pictures you took? I know it makes me happy to edit and then look at some of them. So, maybe if I put them on a website, it is easier for me to look through them and some other people might enjoy looking at them as well; or maybe even better, critique my work and help me to improve.
Hence, this website.
